Ruk Digest 1/22

Hello Fellow Rukkers!
I wrote a post on Medium summarizing the NPR podcast: How I Built This.

Zumba began because of a simple mistake, and through that mistake "Alberto “Beto” Perez had discovered the exercise that people want to do, instead of the exercise that people have to do.”

Richard Branson Wants To Create Sports Festivals

Think music festivals, but for sports.

In this case though Branson envisions families coming out, bringing a picnic, buying healthy snacks, and spending the day being active, whether its taking outdoor fitness classes, yoga, or participating in races.

Branson says that: "sporting events in the past have all been very much aimed at the individual and not at the family as a whole."

The first Virgin Sport Festival will be in late April in England, but there are plans to have these festivals come to the states.

Deal of the Week

Song of the Week

Spy Game Theme Song - Harry Gregson-Williams

Classical / Opera / Soundtrack

Over the weekend I caught the end of the movie Spy Game. The last 10 minutes always gives me chills. This is the song that plays at the very end.

The song builds up and becomes pretty upbeat.

Health and Science

Scientists Have Found A Way To Help Wounds Heal Without Scars

The super basic secret: using fat.

"Fat cells called adipocytes are normally found in the skin, but they’re lost when wounds heal as scars."

"Scar tissue also does not have any hair follicles associated with it, which is another factor that gives it an abnormal appearance from the rest of the skin."

"The secret is to regenerate hair follicles first. After that, the fat will regenerate in response to the signals from those follicles"

Thought of the Week

"What habits make you successful?"

- Dan Charnas, one of the first writers for Hip-Hop magazine The Source

I think it's worth to spend some time thinking about the question and also writing down your answers.

Start to think about how you can make those habits a bigger part of your life.

And also think about and write down which habits make you unsuccessful.

I found this quote in a post about what knowledge workers can learn from chefs
If you have been enjoying getting The Ruk, I would love it if you shared it with the people you know. Here is the link you can share:
